Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the Curiosity mobile application (the “App”) handles information. Curiosity is a global “curiosity experiment” in which participants unlock and view worldwide participation statistics. We are committed to protecting your privacy and collecting as little data as possible.

1. Information We Collect

Curiosity does not require you to create an account and does not collect your name, email address, phone number, or contacts. We collect only the following:

Anonymous device identifier. A random identifier is generated on your device to recognise you as a returning participant and to keep your unlock state. It is not linked to your real identity.
Approximate location (country). With your permission, the App uses your device location solely to determine your country so we can place you on the world map. Your precise GPS coordinates are processed on-device and are not transmitted or stored — only the resulting country (and a representative city name) is saved. If you decline location access, the App simply estimates a region and continues to work.
Participation data. When you unlock the statistics we store your participant number, country, a representative city, and the timestamp of joining.

2. Payments

Curiosity offers a single one-time purchase to unlock statistics. Payments are processed by Google Play Billing. We never receive or store your full payment card details; payment processing is handled entirely by Google in accordance with Google’s own privacy terms. There are no subscriptions and no advertising in the App.

3. How We Use Information

To provide the core experience: unlocking and displaying global statistics.
To assign and display your participant number and country ranking.
To calculate aggregate, anonymised statistics (totals, per-country counts, leaderboards, charts). These aggregates never identify an individual.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your data. We do not share personal data with third parties for advertising. Aggregated, non-identifying statistics may be shown to all users within the App (for example, total participants per country).

5. Data Retention

Anonymous participation data is retained for as long as the experiment operates so that global counters remain accurate. You may request deletion of your participation record at any time (see Contact below).

6. Children’s Privacy

Curiosity is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

7. Security

We use reasonable technical measures to protect the limited data we store. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your data. Because we store only anonymous data, we may ask you to provide your device identifier so we can locate the corresponding record.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above.
